Why don't tornadoes ever hit Charleston, SC?

Now, don't get me wrong I am TERRIBLY scared of tornadoes...but I want to understand the answer to my question from someone who has a degree in the field or something. I notice we do get a lot of tornado warnings in the summer and last year one touched down on Wadmalaw/John's Island (EF 2)....but not Charleston. I remember one person telling me that there was a funnel cloud spotting over Northwoods Mall...but that is about it. And I looked up our peak Tornado season and it said March-May. So, can anyone give me any advice? Tomorrow they said we may get some warnings and I want to know what to expect (although Tornado touchdowns can be unpredictable).
