ault settlement?

Was severly beaten years back. Beaten while unconcious and left for dead. Perps arrested and found guilty of ault in criminal court. Have had Two sets of Plastic surgery to fix my nose and that region of my face including a collapsed sinus cavity and multiple fractures. Lawyer representing me for the Civil case advised me incorrectly on the length of time I had on the Statute of limitations. As a result, Not able to go after Perp in court for critical damages like "loss and enjoyment of life and mental distress" not to mention the surgery and rebuilds. Now I have large medical bills to pay and the chance for surgery in the future is highly possible to continue to correct things were altered surgically that may not adapt to my body as I age. What should I do...? going after my lawyer will end up costing me more money and isn't possible to be 100% sure I'll get a fair trial.
