What's it take to be a professional musician?

I think it's vital for private teaching in piano, I've been taught piano for seven years and my teacher has helped me so much. Piano examinations are a good test of skill and knowledge, but I think you need a teacher to book you one of those. There are musicians who have taught themselves but I'd still recommend lessons.
